After a certain amount of prompting and attempts to avoid writing my essay I have resurrected some old galleries that got lost when andresworld was changed over to its new sexy mature brown guise. Three main galleries of note are German Christmas Markets Trip, Becky’s Party and Glasto 2003.

The German Christmas Markets Trip gallery also includes some photos of a random trip down to the canal when I think Hannah and Angela drank all my homebrew when I went off to get paper to make a fire. When I got back they were pole dancing. ‘Nuff said. The Becky’s Party gallery includes photos of one of her house parties as well as some random photos of Duncan posing with his bass guitar and some ickle year seven photos of various Chellaston boys and girls. Finally, Glasto 2003 includes a few webcam shots of Jam, my dad and I from the Leftfield tent.

All this digging led me to also dig out the legendary Punk in Drublic CD by [I quote] “Dré and Dunc Live @ Becky’s Party”. It is however, truly horrendous. Its proof that I can neither drum or sing and given that most of the tracks are played by Duncan, obviously not trusted with a guitar either. The following are a few samples of songs I think Duncan and I either wrote of made up on the spot, however Duncan was going through his Blink 182 phase and at times I’m not sure whether it’s their dirty lyrics or Duncan’s foul mouth.

The Chicken Man OST – My Friend Bernard
The Chicken Man OST – My Friend Bernard [our opener for the night and proof that I have no rythm]

Duncan and Hannah – Searching For Jamie
[while Hannah was throwing up in the downstairs loo as I recall]

The Frombrero Song ‘Take Off Your Top’ Come To The Party
The Frombrero Song ‘Take Off Your Top’ Come To The Party
[don't ask]

Andre and Duncan – Come To The (Piss Piss) Party
Andre and Duncan – Come To The (Piss Piss) Party
[by far the track of the night, lovely vocal harmonies]

Oh to be drunk and 15 (?) again. It makes me cringe.

This is the introduction of a video section. Basically this is just another blog the same as this frontpage and the same as the proper blog page. However this time whenever I go out and take photos with my digital camera I can upload the photos to the galleries page and now upload the videos to the video section. Currently up there are the videos from Amelia’s 21st and a couple of random ones I thought I’d stick on my youtube account.

Now, there most be LOADS of embaressing videos knocking about this hard drive some where…

Its here. The new version of andresworld.co.uk has now officially gone live. Everything is almost done. All the photo galleries are up, however the Derby photo galleries still need some editing to get them in the right order with the right titles and descriptions, but that is something I can do remotely and at a later date.

You’ll notice that some things have gone. There is no homebrew page, guestbook, forum, me and my friends sections. Many of these have not made a reappearence because they are a little dated to say the least and not really for what andresworld.co.uk is useful for. I have, however, preserved the homebrew page over in the blog section and it will exist always at this location here. Instead of a guestbook you will notice there is the ability to leave comments on both this front page and the main blog section. Anyone can leave comments and I think its more relevantfor people to comment on recent posts which will often occur with new photos than maybe to post on a guestbook randomly. Then again, if the need comes for a guestbook I’m sure I can squeeze one in somewhere.

For the mean time I will leave you to explore the new site. There isnt a great deal here at the moment. I have archived my travel blogs over at the travel section and I will do the same with the old welcome page – after all that has updates dating way back to 2001 – a wealth of information. I spose I’ll need to get the counter back up somewhere as well…

To christen the relaunch the latest gallery is over in the uni section and is of Claudio’s 21st Birthday Weekender. Dont forget also that the latest edition to the Derby galleries is Amelia’s 21st Birthday Bash, and there are videos available from that weekend up on the Andresworld youtube site.

All that is left to say is that DreFest is cracking off on the 29th and 30th of July. Everyone is more than welcome to come. Bring some beer, some food and a tent and you’ll be made. We just have to hope that the weather holds out.

Well we’re getting there. Slowly but surely we are getting there. Did I just use the royal ‘we’? #shrugs shoulders# Either way I am slowly transferring the files from the old site to their folders on the new site. That does mean, however, that anyone who doesn’t know to come here will be getting a large collection of 404s.

Of course I didn’t get anywhere today with out my dose of trouble. Its been hot, very hot. Especially in my room in Manchester with large bay windows that catch a lot of the afternoon sun. As a consequence my PC likes to crash. I installed a new fan in it a few weeks back when I was having similar problems and that seemed to do the trick, but today must have just been too much. I installed a nice bit of freeware called Mother Board Monitor available for download from http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=311 which tells me temperatures of things and stuff. My CPU was running at 74 degrees celsius which caused MBM to make lots of bleepy noises so I’m assuming thats a bad thing. I’ve since taken the side off and the CPU temp has cooled to 62 degrees and the case temp has dropped from 37 to 32. What I did notice with this utility was that when doing CPU intensive work like resizing JPGs it is unadvisable to do it at 74 degrees because when your CPU hits 75 your going to get some lovely BSODs [blue screen of death for non geeky types].

Anyways. The Uni galleries are up and you can access them by just clicking the uni link in the main menu. The galleries are sorted into date descending order so the most recent ones are first – unlike the travel galleries which show the early galleries first. I think thats the best way.

Well this evening I’ve mainly been working on the travel section of the site. First off I decided to back up my travel blog which will now become redundant with the introduction of the my life of travel rss to html script which turns what I write on my life of travel into an updated page on the travel section. I’ve saved all the old blog and converted it to the new styleand copied it over to a new location on the revamp site. You can view the old blog under travel blog archive from the travel section. There’s a few interesting bits and bobs in there including my ramblings from last years eastern europe trip and a smattering of posts during the latter half of my gap year trip. Currently the links to the different months have been geared to when the site switches over, so if you do want to view any of the other past months before the switch then when you get the 404 just whack ‘/revamp’ in between andresworld.co.uk and /travel and you’ll get there.

Secondly I’ve transferred all my eastern europe trip photos over to the new gallery system. It was a little easier this time round than with my Gap Year photos as I knew what the problems would be straight off. Also the pics were just in one folder and not sorted by day as with my old camera. This meant I just started from scratch when creating folders for the countries and cities. I’ve decided to keep to the Trip -> Country -> City scheme of things just for continuity between the two travel galleries even though some countries only have one city or locations within them.

The blog section was completed last night as well and I posted a quick one about the world cup just to get the ball rolling [and to stop my 'now listening to' div straying across the side of the page]. Keep an eye on it, the plan is to keep this frontpage as merely an informative index to updates on the site and then insightful ramblings will take place on the blog, although I’m not going to post on this blog everytime i post on the blog. That would be just silly.

Well. At least I’ve finally sorted out my gap year photos. In the end I had to download the entire galleries folder and then run a *.* search, sorting the files by dimension in explorer. I then deleted all the 480×640 files which left me with my troublesome landscape files. Next step was to resize them all to a width of 540px. Easier said than done. After about 20 or so batch image resizing programmes I found the one that I wanted. It is freeware and available from http://www.faststone.org/. The important thing was that I could tell it to batch resize a folder and then it would do all the subfolders within it. Furthermore the resized images either needed to replace the existing ones or the new files needed to retain the same folder structure so that I could just FTP them back up to the webspace and hit overwrite. Eventually after much fuss and accidentally moving and deleting thousands of photos I managed to resize all my landscape photos as well as reduce the quality ever so slightly [only to 80 JPEG quality mind you] and even managed to save myself around 50 or so megs of webspace. Which was nice.

Nevertheless that wasn’t the end of the debarcle. I found that as a consequence of resizing my photos the files extension had changed from .JPG to . jpg. Not a problem in Windows, however unix based servers are case sensitive. So as I started to upload my files i found that I was just creating second copies that wouldnt be recognised by the gallery script. Oh bugger. Luckily I have on my HD a mass renaming proggy which I could just select the folder and change all the file extensions to .JPG. Nonetheless, I then found out that some of the orginal files had lower case extensions from when they’d beeen edited in the past. In the end it took a lot of FTPing and a lot of renaming to get the right files in the right places with no duplicates. So my lovelies there should now be all my Gap Year photos on the travel section whcih fit nicely on the page whilst keeping my portrait photos full size. Enjoy.

Okay well things are getting there. The main drag at the moment is sorting out the gallery’s. Its a bit of a pain in the arse editing all the meta data for the folders which hold the images. Especially so for my Gap Year for when there is a new folder for each day. However, my travel photos should be a lot easier to navigate in the future. Should just be a case of selecting the trip, the country and then the gallery and you can view all the photos for that album. However at somepoint I’m going to have to resize all my landscape photos to 540×405 so that they fit in the template – a right pain in the arse! Especually since its just the landscape ones which are the problem. I could get the gallery script to do it for me, but then it generates a whole new set of photos like it does for the thumbnails and that will just eat up all my webspace. Oh joy.

So currently music and travel are up and running [sort of]. And I’ve put in under construction pages for the other links. If anything to reduce the bumber of 404s I get on my website stats [ahuhuhuh geek laugh].
